When people hear the word self-worth, they often think of it as a “nice-to-have” — something that makes you feel a little more confident. But the truth is, healthy self-worth is life-changing. It shapes the way you see yourself, how you relate to others, and the choices you feel able to make in life.
For a long time, I didn’t have any self-esteem or self-worth. On the surface, people thought I was confident. I was the entertainer, the one cracking jokes and being the life and soul of the party. But this wasn’t real confidence — it was survival. As a child, I learned that if I made people laugh and kept others happy, I was safe. So I wore that mask of confidence into adulthood.
Behind closed doors, I didn’t believe in myself. I never felt good enough to apply for jobs. I envied friends who went to university or built careers, but I didn’t have the courage to follow my own goals. I felt stuck in the role of housewife and mother, while others seemed to live with freedom and purpose. Inside, I always felt inferior.
But everything began to change when I started to build real self-worth. I discovered that I didn’t need to perform, entertain, or prove myself to be accepted. I could simply be me — and the right people stayed.
Today, it feels like my brain has been rewired. I no longer compare myself or feel “less than.” I feel quietly confident, content, and free.
Self-worth isn’t about being loud or outgoing — it’s about trusting yourself, feeling worthy, and creating the life you want. And when you begin to nurture it, it can transform everything.
If you’d like support in building your self-worth, you don’t have to do it alone. I offer therapy in Romford to help people grow confidence, heal from trauma, and find freedom from old patterns.
